Little Women: The Children’s Picture Book

Adapted by  Laurie Lawlor based on the novel  by Louisa May Alcott,

This version of the classic story of four sisters in nineteenth-century New England is based on the Columbia Pictures movie.

In Little Women, Marmee offers moral guidance and unconditional love to her girls: Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy. In this novel, which was published in two parts from 1868 and 1869, Louisa May Alcott drew from her own childhood experiences to dramatize the joys and sorrows of the March family. The sisters come of age, with the Civil War in the background. And, Marmee is always there for the girls–to oversee their antics, allay their fears, and heal their troubled heart.Adapted by Laurie Lawlor based on the novel by Louisa May Alcott, Little Women, Rhonda Massad, Montreal Grandma

This book is definitely recommend this book to anyone wanting to get into classics as it’s a children’s book (so easy to read) but also there are fantastic characters making it a good read to enjoy with your grandchildren who are around ten years old.

The book is written for a younger audience though older readers may find the chapters infused with a heavy dose of morality as was the case with Victorian children’s books.

Louisa was a master marketer akin to J.K. Rowling. She also had a strong survival instinct like Rowling. She desperately needed to make money and writing was her one marketable skill. Notably, she was able to write the book under her own name and not use a gender neutral pseudonym.
